Pelicans. I absolutely adore pelicans. They intrigue me. Lots.

When I was living in Australia as a kid I was introduced to ‘Stormboy’ a book and a movie. About a young boy and his friendship with a Pelican. I guess it stuck with me.
Then a few years back, I stayed in Belize for six months. Pelican overload. I loved it. Living at the seaside, the waterfront of the large bay in the north bordering Mexico, it was a daily treat having these pelicans come by.
The second house I stayed in after rudely being locked out of the first one..(not all realtors are trustworthy and turn out to even be drug dealers with air strips in their back gardens, who would pop your brains out given the occasion to do so, meaning I had to let it rest and I lost a significant amount of rent deposit. A big fuck up.. But it did bring me to my second accommodation only a mile or so down the waterfront. An upstairs apartment with a huge screened veranda and a roofterras that me and my room mate called the infinity roof..

This rooftop turned out to be such an inspiring spot. It was an incredible experience being able to see the jungle tree tops from that high, and have a water perspective like no other, and then there was the bird orchestra every day.. And the froggies down below at night.
The pelicans would glide over at least twice a day.. It’s like they were communiting, probably from a safe place to spend their nights going to the hunting grounds to get their daily food in the morning. It was so awesome to see them so close, hovering over me. You wouldn’t hear them. They are silent gliders. No chit-chat either.
I would say “high there” or “heyyy, hello”and they would sometimes turn their heads a slight angle to see me. Greeting eyes. Beautiful. Do you know how awesomely cute their feet are when they fly? Lol. Absolute cuteness overload.
I also appreciated highly that they never shited on me or on the rooftop while I was up there. 😆

Close encounters thus they were, and it made me love them even more than before. More real. And then I moved to Puerto Rico. Extra Pelicans. Some amazing pictures of them I captured to share but also lots of camera clicks in my head..just with the blink of my eyes, snapshots of their postures at specific spots on rocks, or pilars, or random lookout from rooftops, boot railings and so on, or I would be witness to amazing group dives in front of me at the harboring waters or the sea shores.. No actual camera on me. Still, images captured in the mind to never fade.
So yeah, they are my favorites. I brought with me a wooden sculpture of a pelican from Belize. Made by a local guy called Pedro. It’s small and light enough to have been able to travel with me.

I do have more other kinds of favorites in the animal world. I’llbe writing about them too sometime. Some are so close to my heart I will be them… Maybe you get that too?A spiritual thing for a Spiritual Being. ❤️
